EAST SPENCER — A town fire truck was involved in a bump-up in a restaurant parking lot Wednesday, preventing it from responding to a call that turned out to be nothing.

Firefighters were leaving Hendrix Barbecue in Spencer around 12:50 p.m. when the truck hit an empty car in the parking lot. Mayor Erma Jefferies said the firefighters were responding to a reported car fire in East Spencer.

A police officer responded to the car-fire call and found there was nothing to it. Jefferies went to Hendrix to make sure no firefighters were injured. All of them were fine and the truck appeared not to have sustained much damage.
