Withers, Overcash join board tonight

CHINA GROVE — Newly elected aldermen Lee Withers and Ron Overcash will begin their four-year terms this evening.

District Court Judge Kevin Eddinger will administer the oath of office to Withers, Overcash and incumbent Mayor Don Bringle, who will begin a new term.

Withers, who headed up the Farmers Day celebration in July, is the son of former Alderman Roger Withers.

Overcash served several terms on the board in the 1990s.

Withers and Overcash replace Aldermen Troy Elliott and Harold Simpson. Neither sought re-election.

In other matters, the board will hearing reports including an update on the plans to rework the town's public safety building on North Main Street.

David Ketner, public works director, will provide the board with a recommendations from the public safety committee including the selection of an architect to oversee the project.
