Three at East Rowan nominated for Morehead

Three East Rowan High School students have been nominated for the Morehead-Cain Scholarship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

They are Cameron Brown, Lauren Cress and Ben Huffman.

Brown, a junior marshal and consistent scholar athlete and Civitan Scholar, is a member of the National Honor Society, Sigma Phi Gamma and the Student Council. He has been a regional qualifier in pole-vault and state qualifier in outdoor track for pole-vault and indoor track. His parents are Scott and Bonnie Brown of Rockwell.

Cress, a junior marshal and consistent scholar athlete and Civitan Scholar, is president of the East Rowan Junior Civitan Club and National Honor Society. She received the Filly Award in track, served as captain of the volleyball team and earned All-County and All-Conference volleyball team honors. She also was named Most Athletic Female at East Rowan. Cress, daughter of Kim and Teresa Cress of Granite Quarry, has also been nominated by Principal Kelly Sparger for the Principal's Leadership Scholarship.

Huffman, a junior marshal, scholar athlete and Civitan Scholar, is secretary of the National Honor Society and a member of Sigma Phi Gamma and Future Business Leaders of America. He has been captain of the soccer team for three years and recipient of the Most Dedicated Soccer Player award the last two. He has also been named to the All-County and All-Conference soccer teams. His parents are Eric and Emily Huffman of Granite Quarry.
