Historic Preservation Commission to review plans for East Fisher, South Lee streets

The Salisbury Historic Preservation Commission will review plans Thursday for street improvements on East Fisher and South Lee streets.

The commission meets at 5:15 p.m. Thursday at City Hall, 217 S. Main St.

The city of Salisbury plans additions such as brick pavers, new sidewalks, pedestrian lighting, a corner plaza and more as part of its changes in the 100 and 200 blocks of East Fisher Street and in the 100 block of South Lee Street.

Lynn Raker, an urban design planner for the city, will present the application for a certificate of appropriateness.

Joe Morris, planning and community development manager for the city, also seeks a certificate for a granite marker where stones had been removed on the Old English Cemetery wall.

The marker is in connection to the Freedman's Memorial and makes evident that the opening is not original or in accordance with U.S. Secretary of Interior standards.

In other applications to be considered by the commission:

* Gene Mitchell, the owner at 126 E. Henderson St., looks to install shutters on four windows, install a new back door, add a patio to the rear of the house and construct a new driveway and parking area.

* Attorneys at 131 N. Main St. want to repave their office's parking lot with asphalt, including the removal of a broken concrete alley.

* SBJA LLC, a partnership of Clay Lindsay and Jake Alexander, has submitted plans for facade improvements and more shading devices at 202 N. Lee St.
