School board to elect chairman Monday night

By Holly Fesperman Lee

Salisbury Post

How much money could the school system save if its operations were consolidated in one office?

School board members will find out Monday when Pete Teague with Dixon Hughes gives them an analysis of the cost associated with their current multiple-building arrangement versus a consolidated office.

Board members aren't expected to make any decision on the central office, only discuss the costs associated with daily operations.

Also on the agenda for Monday night's school board meeting:

* Board members will elect a board chairman and vice chairman for the next year. At the last school board meeting, other board members said they were very disappointed with the way current Chairman Bryce Beard handled the central office announcement.

* Bids for roofing projects at South Rowan High and Knox Middle School were received Nov. 6. Board members will vote to award the bids Monday.

* Board members will hear a report on how many mobile classrooms are in the Rowan-Salisbury School System and how they're being used.

* Dr. Rebecca Smith, assistant superintendent, will give an update on the implementation plan for the new high school graduation project requirements.

* The board will discuss parent focus groups set to begin in January. The focus groups are designed to help the system address the district improvement plan goal of developing partnerships.

The Rowan-Salisbury Board of Education will meet at 5 p.m. Monday in the schools administrative offices at 110 N. Long Street in East Spencer.
