This information is mainly for those homeowners who are destroying their lawns during this hot and dry weather. As I drive up and down our roads, I see people on expensive lawnmowers mowing close to the ground, leaving some dust behind and not leaving nearly enough green leaves remaining on the grass.
In our area, we have had only 12/10 inches of rain in 41 days, up to Aug. 10. My advice is this: Park that lawnmower in the shed, go into your cooler home and, if you have a book on how to grow plants, read it, especially the chapter on photosynthesis. You will save gas and wear on your mower, and your lawn will survive much better. Do not fertilize at this time of the year unless you have a good watering system.
Check with Darrell Blackwelder at the extension service for his advice and information on lawn care.
