From staff reports
Davie County lost 40-37 to North Forsyth in CPC girls action on Wednesday, but senior Meisha Fowler surpassed 1,000 career points in her home gym.
Fowler banked in a 3-pointer from the right wing to reach the milestone and give the War Eagles (7-8, 1-2) an early 4-0 lead. She let out a sigh of relief, bounced around a little in her orange and white shoes, accepted congratulations from teammates and was acknowledged on the public address system as the eighth Davie girl to reach 1,000 points.
She's the first since current North Iredell coach Tami Ramsey in 1996.
"I knew it was gonna happen, so I wasn't really thinking or worrying about it," said Fowler, a four-year starter.
Fowler scored 10 points and teammate Alicia Allen had 14, including two three-point plays in the third quarter.
Davie weathered an 18-2 first-half run by North Forsyth and led most of the fourth quarter.
"We scratched, clawed and got in position to win," Davie coach Debbie Evans said. "But we couldn't quite execute as well as we wanted."
Davie led 37-34 after Kellie Brown's layup and a free throw by Fowler, but the Vikings (12-4, 1-2) scored six unanswered points in the last 37 seconds to escape.
Fowler had two late 3-point looks, including one in the final seconds, but neither would fall.
"Just down and out," Fowler said. "Man, almost."
Fowler is the one Evans wanted taking the last shot.
"We got the look we wanted and we'll take our chances with her every time," she said. "Getting 1,000 points is a great accomplishment. Meisha has meant so much to this program."
n Wonders sweep Mavs
A.L. Brown's boys basketball team stayed perfect at Bullock Gym and avenged an earlier setback at Marvin Ridge with an 87-41 SPC blowout of the Mavericks on Wednesday.
Twelve different Wonders scored. Billy Simiton, Jeremy Jones and Jamill Lott led the way with 12 points apiece.
"Homecourt means something, but coming focused means more," Brown coach Shelwyn Klutz said. "Great defense tonight. They hit 11 3s on us down there. This time we got out on them and made their shooters dribblers."
The game was postponed from Tuesday due to weather concerns.
The A.L. Brown girls played the first quarter without three starters but came back to defeat Marvin Ridge 35-30.
With three starters sitting out for missing practice, the Wonders (5-11, 3-7 SPC) trailed early and still trailed by one late in the fourth quarter before rallying to win. Senior Brandie Ross led A.L. Brown with 16 points.

Northwest Cabarrus' seventh-place girls fell to the Raiders 58-43.
